Who We Are:
Kun is a local organization focusing on empowering the LGBTIQ+ community in Libya, established in 2019 by Libyan activists in the diaspora. We document cases of discrimination, persecution and violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) paving the way for accountability. We raise awareness about sexual health, and push for social change through art and sharing Libyan queer history
Our mission:
End all forms of discrimination against the LGBTIQ+ community in Libya, support and empower the community through advocacy and networking with local and international organizations and networks and creating safe spaces for expression, research and training.
Our Vision:
Empowering the LGBTIQ+ community in Libya and ending all forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC).
What We Do:
Advocacy: We work to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the LGBT community in Libya. Through targeted campaigns, we aim to change public perceptions, challenge discriminatory laws, and promote inclusive policies.
Networking: We believe in the power of collaboration. By connecting with local and international organizations and networks, and engaging with UN mechanisms, we strive to create a stronger collective voice for the LGBT community in Libya. Together, we can achieve greater impact and foster a society that embraces diversity.
Safe Spaces: We understand the importance of safe spaces for the LGBT community to connect, share experiences, and access resources. Our organization creates these online spaces where individuals can find support, engage in research, and receive essential training. We foster an environment that encourages growth and empowerment.
