Compensation: 850 USD

 

About Us:

Kun is a local organization focusing on empowering the LGBTIQ+ community in Libya, established in 2019 by Libyan activists in the diaspora. Kun documents cases of discrimination, persecution, and violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) paving the way for accountability. Kun raises awareness about sexual health and pushes for social change through art and sharing of Libyan queer history

 

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Researcher to contribute to a critical project focusing on the LGBTIQ+ situation in Libya. This consultation position will play a pivotal role in collecting and analyzing data on violations against the LGBTIQ+ community in Libya, setting the methodology for our upcoming report, and developing strategic recommendations for stakeholders. The successful candidate will report directly to the Project Manager and contribute to a major campaign aimed at raising awareness and supporting advocacy efforts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

    1. Methodology Development: Design and implement a robust methodology to accurately analyze patterns of violations against the LGBTIQ+ community in Libya.
    2. Information Organization: Efficiently organize and synthesize collected data and background information provided by data collectors to ensure clarity and accessibility for further analysis.
    3. Further Research: Conduct additional research as necessary to complement collected data and provide a comprehensive overview of the LGBTIQ+ situation in Libya.
    4. Analysis and Recommendations: Identify patterns of violations from the documented cases and develop actionable recommendations for relevant actors, including CSOs, activists, and policy-makers.
    5. Collaboration and Reporting: Work closely with the project team, including data collectors and the media campaign team, to ensure the report’s findings and recommendations are accurately represented and effectively disseminated.

 

Requirements:

    1. Proven experience in qualitative research, particularly in human rights, social sciences, or a related field. Previous work focusing on LGBTIQ+ issues or in conflict/post-conflict regions is highly desirable.
    2. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.
    3. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Rights, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field is preferred.
    4. Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
    5. Strong commitment to LGBTIQ+ rights and social justice. Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team. Sensitivity and respect for confidentiality and ethical considerations in research.
